Overview

Nagarjun Jamacho Gumba hiking is a short yet thrilling hike close to the valley of Kathmandu. A part of the Shivapuri Nagarjuna National Park, the hills are located on the northwest outskirts of the valley. A 7 km drive from the main city leads towards the base of the hill. The hike starts from Fulbari gate and takes you traversing across the lush woodlands of the Raniban and finally to the top of the hill at an elevation of 2095 meters.

The hike is pristine, adventurous, and splendid offering spectacular views of the Himalayas, Kathmandu valley, and a wide array of biodiversity. Soaking in the views of Himalayan peaks of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Jugal, Dorje Lakpa, and Langtang. Traverse through the wilderness on the edge of the valley. As the region falls under a national park you may come across various species of wildlife. The region is home to 22 kinds of mammals, 102 species of butterflies and insects, and 311 kinds of birds. Also, explore the ancient Jamacho Gumba situated on the top of the hill.

Detail Itineraries

Nagarjun Jamacho Gumba Hiking Route: Macha Pokhari – Fulbari Gate – Raniban – Jamacho Gumba- Fulbari Gate A short drive from the valley and you will reach Macha Pokhari. Traversing across a forested trail head towards Fulbari Gate, the only entrance and exit of the hiking route. Following the deep forested trail reach, Raniban translated as “queen of forest”. After a brief rest head towards Jamacho Gumba perched at the top of the hill. From the top head towards the view tower and witness grand views of the valley and distant hills and mountains. After exploring the Gumba and the splendid views of the landscape retrace your steps back to Fulbari Gate. Next, head towards your accommodation.

Hiking Information:

The Hiking starts at 8 a.m. Private transportation will pick you up from the Alpine Club of Himalaya or any accommodation you are staying in Kathmandu.
