Overview
Chisapani Nagarkot trek is one of the closest and shortest trekking routes around the valley. Chisapani a hill station nestled in the Mahabharat range is located on the northern outskirts of the valley. The climb takes you following the deep wilderness of the Shivapuri National Park. Established as a watershed area in 2033 B.S to preserve the source of river Bagmati, one of the holiest rivers in the country. Later in 2002 A.D., it was gazette as Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park to preserve the biodiversity of the region. The Park covers a total area of 159 sq. km. and ranges from an altitude of approximately 1350 meters – 2732 meters above sea level. Covering districts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Sindupalchowk.
The next hill station is the renowned Nagarkot. Nestled at an elevation of 2,175 meters it is the perfect vantage point to witness the landscapes of Kathmandu valley and views of the central and eastern Himalayan range. On a clear day mountain peaks up to Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal, Rolwaling, and Everest can be seen from here. The region is also an ideal destination for travelers to witness grand views during sunrise and sunset, from above the clouds.
The trek starts with a short drive toward the bustling town of Sundarijal. From here traversing across lush deep wilderness following the rapids of the holy Bagmati River head towards Chisapani. The tracks are mostly on upwards sections. Along the way keep an eye out as you may witness the biodiversity of the region. Following the ascending route crossing, several villages reach Chisapani. From here witness grand views of the landscapes like never before.
The following day thrill continues. Wake up before dawn and witness grand views of the sunrise. Next head towards Nagarkot. Along the way cross various settlements and lush sections of woodland. Upon reaching Nagarkot head towards your accommodation and later enjoy the grand views during sunset. The next day, head on a short downhill trek towards Changunarayan. After exploring the ancient temple and learning about the rich history, myth, and legends head on a short drive towards your accommodation. Which marks the end of the Chisapani Nagarkot trek.
